| I
am a 48-year-old registered former sex offender residing in hell,
also know as central Texas. I was convicted in California three years ago and,
prior to that never truly knew what discrimination was. Now I know. And I have
learned compassion for all those that have been persecuted before, whether it
be for race or religion. I truly stand amazed at the amount of cruelty that prejudices
and ignorance can foster.
I am hopeful that, over time and through education, we can teach a truly ignorant
and fearful population the truth and find acceptance as fellow citizens in a country
founded on freedom and the basic principle that people who make mistakes can change and
begin anew without carrying the stigma of that mistake with them for life.
God reigns
in the affairs of men. I know He sees, is aware and has compassion for our
suffering. We need to ensure that whatever we do does not come from feelings
of hatred and vengeance regardless of how those feelings seem justified. Returning
evil for evil is not the answer. All it will do is turn those who are sitting
on the fence and some of those already in our court against us.
Pray first and foremost. Act and speak out with
kindness, love and understanding. That will win in the end. I truly believe that.
Yours in
suffering, - M | |
